Title: Universal Joints.

A question from a local MB Pagoda owner.

Funny how a long trip makes you think about these things!, noticed online that these units are available "but may need special mercedes tools". Anybody had experience with these? Also are the centre and back ones the same?

Garry,

I have a spare driveshaft that I plan to use when i temporarily remove my ZF box to make some repairs on it. As you know, the shaft used with the std box is longer than the one used with the ZF. I replaced the universals on this spare driveshaft. I did need to use a hydraulic press and an arbor to remove and replace the joints. They are the same and it was not an especially tough job with the press. I can see where this would be somewhat difficult though w/o the hydraulic press. Hope this helps--George

I have Driveline of Portland's driveshaft on my car...they provide a good explanation here.
