Wow, once I show my wife these numbers, I'm sure she'll get off my back, (at least for a while) :D

The sad part of all this great increase in prices for our cars is that it comes with a sting in the tail. The spares parts vendors will increase their prices accordingly so if you are a long term keeper and restoring, it is not really good news at all. :'( :'( :(

Wow on the Gooding results, Was the $110K 280 SL really that nice??
-
1147 - $30800 (this was a 280 SL)
So it says...sure doesn't appear to be one...wonder what the buyer actually got...

Yes, it was "as-new" inside & out. Tobacco/Cognac MB Tex

The Tobacco car at Goodings was sold at no reserve by Driver Source, here in Houston. I think they had the car at $79K about 2 or 3 months before taking it to the auction and I had several opportunities to look at the car closely. The car was very nice with no real issues. I had suggested that the car would sell in the $70's. Which just goes to show you what I know about Pagoda values. I believe Goodings projected the car to sell between $80K and $105K. I believe it hammered at $100K plus 10% buyer's premium.
I think this demonstrates that "nice" cars are going up in value, but in the end, the true value of a car is determined when the amount of money someone is willing to sell a car for equals the amount of money someone is willing to pay for it.

Hi all,
I know this listing is not for a auction, but it is the highest I have ever seen an early 60's/70's Mercedes asking price from a private seller.
http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/mercedes-280se-1970-14005959?base=1216&vertical=Car&cr=1&eapi=2&__N=4294678013%201246%201252%201247%201282%201090%204294964493%201216&num=15&silo=Stock&sort=default
It's a nice car but way above the average asking price. It will be interesting if he gets it!
PC
P.S. Hope the link works OK.
If not just go to www.carsales.com.au
search for a 280SE convertible and have a look at the dearest one ($588,000 AUD)

That is one sweet convertible, you would think paying all that money the ring horn pad should match the steering wheel, right? :D
