Title: Penetrating Oils
Post by: 69280sl on January 10, 2013, 16:30:19
Someone with a lot of spare time did a comparison test and sent the results to Machinist's Workbench magazine. From worst to best WD-40, PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, Kano Kroil. Liquid Wrench was "almost" as good as Kroil at 20% of the cost.
Surprising news, a home made concoction of equal parts ATF and acetone was the best by far. It broke a "scientifically" rusted connection with 1/2 the torque required by Kroil, and 10% of the torque required without any oil.

As with anything found on the internet, consider carefully.

What's funny about this, Gus, is that this same post has been around all car forums for a few years now.  Do a search and you'll find it everywhere!  Everybody has their opinions...nobody has produced the article!

I'd offer that if there is any truth to the Acetone/ATF mix, it is easy enough and cheap enough to try.  I'd just be a bit concerned about getting acetone on anything plastic, rubber or painted in or around your car...

My link to the article now appears as "broken," so the search for the original document continues.
