Post by: hauser on July 07, 2004, 00:51:43
There is a 1969 280sl for sale on eBay item # 2483994104. Take a look at the undercarrriage pic.

This couldn't be the famous one-off, completely sealed, front-wheel drive Pagoda "Schwimm-Wagen", could it?!  If it had the original paddle tires it'd be worth something.

vw used to offer an option on their vans
where they covered over the undercarriage-
frame and components
i had one used & sold it to a friend
he had a problem and had to remove the underplating
everything underneath was TOTALLY RUSTED Through
unless this car has always been in an arid climate....

I'm going to assume the seller (who appears to be a dealer) accidentally mixed up his photos.

This Pagoda has been on ebay a couple of times, including on German ebay recently. The seller claims it's a one-owner car with 25K miles or something like that.

Seems like it's worth seeing, but I always have to wonder about cars that linger on ebay. Seems like the good ones get snatched up offline if they don't make reserve (and they frequently don't)
