Title: External Door Top Trim
Post by: studioPaGoNa on December 26, 2012, 08:38:51
I am thinking to re-chrome the external door top trim.
May I ask what it is made of?
I would suspect that it is made of Aluminum because the magnet does not stick to it.
Thank you for your advice.

Koki,

They are chromed steel.  I have re-chromed them before without any problem.

Garry态

I am relieved to figure out that it is steel.
Here most of re-chrome shop has no facility to re-chrome aluminum.
Now I am going to order re-chroming.

Thank you for your input.

I am pretty sure they are made of brass, which btw makes a great basis for rechroming.

The aluminium trim is usually anodized not chrome plated.

Hans,

I think you are right, steel was not the best term, maybe I should have said a metal alloy. just that it was not aluminium and can be rechromed.

My brain is not working after all the Xmas festivities. I need a nap still. :D

Dear All,

The brass makes more sense because magnet does not stick.
It is a new year holiday here and I will ask to re-chrome next year.

Thank you all and a happy new year.
