The 1970 280sl that i am currently restoring has a cylinder head fitted with the casting # of 130 016 17 01, on looking in the tech: manual there is no mention of this #, does anyone have any info: on the above #.

Hello Eric,
What is the model designation on the side of the head (28OSE etc.) ? Also look for a compression ratio number eg. 9.5
It could be a low compression head, depending on what yo find.

Hello Joe,
The designation on the side is - 280SEL / SL

I cannot be the only one with this cylinder head fitted.
Can someone with a 1970/71(manual) have a look at the # on there cylinder head and see what # it is ?

My '69 4 speed has 130 016 00 01
My '70 4 speed has 130 016 08 01
Both have factory replacement blocks, so I don't know if that has any effect on the numbers.

My original May 1968 car has No 130 016 0001.
The item No for the casting (seen on the side of the head) is not identical to the Part No for the (finished) engine head. So unfortunately the parts book does not solve this.
Included in the finished head, with a part No per the parts book, are studs and valve guides etc.
As a note here, in the factory parts book 10 180 (M130 injection) dated March 1971 the part No for M130 engine heads in Pagoda's are:
130 010 2620
130 010 6720
for US market 130 010 7320
