Has anyone tried to extract a lens from the chrome surround on a rear light.
This light has the lens egdes formed into the chrome piece .... ie where they appear sort of melted arround the edges.
Thanks
Kay
Sorry this is in the wrong section.... would the moderator please move this in the exterior section. ::)

Kay,
I tried it recently with out any success. First I tried to just remove the 'blobed' areas that appeared to be heat sealed to the surround then realised that they are fitted/heat sealed all the way round so would have required cutting completely around the lens. Gave up and broke the lens out. It was quite brittle and broke out easily and the replacement lenses fitted in fine.

Hi Kay,
Along with Garry I ended up cutting and breaking mine out. But I bought replacement lenses. If I wanted to keep the old lenses though I thought I could have carefully removed the plastic tabs from the inside. It would have taken some time but I thought it possible.....
Good luck, Joe :)

I have done it, you need a dermal tool and about half hour of time, you basically have to grind off the inner lip inside the bezel , then putting it back (I'm assuming after re-chroming the bezel) would be the reverse using very small amount of clear silicone for adhesive at the lip where it makes contact to the bezel.

Are the lens types interchangeable, ie. if you break out a 230 type lens can you insert
a 280 type lens in the same frame?
That is does one frame fit all

.../...does one frame fit all?
Yes, only one shape/type of metal frame for W113 taillight (1963-71). Beware of the W111 (cp/cab) type taillight frame though, similar but not at all interchangeable
