the outer chrome surround is battered to bits. is that a part i would go to MB for or somewhere else

I'm not sure whether SLS would be a good source, probably depends whether your UK plates are the same size as German plates. How do other UK members attach them? Maybe you don't need a surround at all?

think i have them front and back. looks nice i have to say. need to get the car back and measure it i guess. SLS seem to have them although i am now not sure what them might actually be.

Yet another part available from the dealer, although the quality isn't great. I buy them from MB and then have them re-chromed. Other places do sell chrome backing plates but I haven't found any that match the quality of the originals.

My apologies Russell, Colin is correct. The part is shown in the parts book as 113 885 00 81, licence plate moulding, front, with two rubber washers 000 987 25 41.

i think i need to wait and get the thing back home to start looking at the cosmetics rather than trying to do this by remote control. that part number looks the same as the sls thing so good news i will get one here.
