Does anyone from that area know of any firms renting classic cars for self drive?
Avis is just dull and we are heading Sonoma-wards later in the month and that's ideal country for renting a decent car. In fact, a Pagoda would be perfect!

I do not know of one in the States. But if you ever travel to France's wonderful Bordeaux wine region then check out Gourmet Touring on http://www.gourmet-touring.com they offer wonderfully well organised self-drive tours of the region where you drive a combination of modern and classic sports cars - one of which can be a Pagoda 280SL. All their offerings come with personalised touring guides linked in to a portable sat nav system in the car to avoid those driving holiday arguements!

Do a Google search on exotic car rental. There are several companies that rent high end vehicles in San Fran area. You most likely won't find a 113, but a Boxter, Vette, Jag might do the trick.

Well, not San Francisco, but if you ever go to Germany you can rent W113s from the Classic Center in Stuttgart-Fellbach. A 230SL will cost you 460 Euro per day, tax included, or 780 Euro for a weekend. The 280SL is 520 Euro per day, 800 per weekend.
They also rent 190SL, 300SL Roadster, 500SL (R107), 170S Cabriolet B (1949), 220 Cabriolet B (1951), 300d Cabriolet D and 220 SEb Cabriolet (W111). Happy motoring!

And then there is that outfit on Majorca, subject of an article in one of the 2003 issues of Mercedes-Benz Classic magazine, that rents classic cars including a 230SL and a 190SL.
