I have a black coil in my 1967 230sl that has a black top. What do I replace this with? The parts places I see online and in person seem to have only one for the pre-1969 cars. Is there such a thing as a "normal" 12v coil, and would the ballast resistor .9ohms then restrict the power to the proper level? I see blue, red, etc. coils but no tan top black. It's gotta be all about the output, so maybe an off the shelf coil would work just as well. ??

I just replaced the (incorrect) Bosch blue coil on a 230SL with a Bosch red coil from AutohausAZ. Works perfectly, cured a 4K rpm cut-out.

Thanks Chuck
Looks like I'm going red.
