Title: Cold Start Valve - blocked / clogged jet
Post by: db180 on October 01, 2012, 19:15:13
Hi Folks,

New to this site and have searched and tried what has already been suggested, but one of the jet's on the CSV is still blocked.

Was wondering if anyone had advice or tricks/tips on what could be done to unblock it.

So far I have tried soaking in carb cleaner, pressurised air and water - still stuck. Don't really want to try heat.

Thanks in advance.

GH.

Have you blown through it backwards with air?  The next step would probably be a thin wire.

Also try soaking it in alcohol, which works best on fuel varnish. Could rust be your problem?

Thanks for the advice.

I've left it soaking in alcohol and see if this corrects it.
I don't think it's rust as the rest of the unit has no rust on it.

I'll update the thread if I can get it unclogged - otherwise I may just get a recon unit.

GH, are you testing it on the car itself?  If not how are you testing it?  Thanks.

The alcohol seems to have done the trick!

I was testing it off the car, using the method in the Tech Manual. One nozzle became unclogged with carb cleaner, then I tried the advice to use alcohol.

Fitted it back together and car fired up, eventually. I then switched it off and restarted the following evening and it started much eaiser.

Many thanks for the advice.
