Very simple on this engine. You can time the pump to TDC on either stroke.

I just swapped my injection pump with one I bought at the junkyard for a song. The original one didn't seem to run well, hard starting and the idle adjusting know would not turn. I think someone adjusted it with the engine running.

One of the pipe unions was rusted and plenty of PBlaster eventually freed it. The cold start valve pipe needs to he the rust removed, the idle air pipe needs cleaning, the fuel supply hose was brittle and broke. I need to replace the hose portion.

BTW, I didn't time the injection pump and just installed it. The 2 plunger pump feeds 3 cyls each, so why bother.

OP, make sure the area is clean and don't let any dirt get into the pump. Read the 'Linkage Tour' post at the top of this forum.

No. The pump needs to be timed to the engine so the injection pulses will be regulated to the movement of the pistons and valves. It's not that it simply sprays fuel into the intake manifold, it has to be sprayed at the right time to get it to run like it should. Otherwise, why have fuel injection?

Thanks for that info. It is a 2 plunger pump so the front 3 fire and some valves are open and some valves are closed. Same for the rear three. Proper timing is necessary for the 6 plunger pumps on the 230SL - 280SL, 300SE, 250SE, 280SE.

I'll check my BBB. Your advice is appreciated.
