I bought this drivers side mirror on eBay a couple of years ago for my 1970 280SL. I went to install it recently and realize that although it is similar, it is not the same mirror. The base is narrower and the stalk has more curves. Can anyone identify it? It is obviously intended for a Mercedes of some type.
Thanks,
Fred Partridge

I see what you mean. From my picture it's easy to see the difference. I would guess that it's for a W111 or 230 - 250 sl. They had a different part number. We should have many owners out there who could take a look.

Hey Fred and Per,
The mirror is from a sedan of the same period, a 280 I think. The mirror itself is the same but the base of the stem is designed to fit into a groove, not sit on a flat surface like on our cars.
The 230 sl had different shaped mirrors.

It's not a 230SL mirror, which has a distinctive forward facing swan-neck shape.

Hello Fred,
The 280-SL W113 had a mirror like this. The 250-SL probably had this style also. The base may not be right. They differed slightly on different models. But it is close. The mirror upper is definately correct since sedans and late W113 cars were the same.

I have been staring at this mirror a lot over the past week. I've checked finback photos on eBay and they have a different shape glass. I looked at a 1970 280SE and it seemed to be the same mirror as the original on my SL.
