Title: Rev Counter
Post by: dwahi on August 06, 2012, 08:25:14
After 3 weeks of not driving the car, I took her out yesterday. The Rev counter began making an almost screeching sound but then after couple of miles, it went away and did not return. Is this a common fault and whats the resolution? The counter was recently serviced too...

Thanks

There are messages here and in the Technical Manual about the tachometer.

A screeching sound or wobbling of the needle usually means a problem with the cable.

Some suggest dropping some oil down the cable but I think most would recommend a new cable which is available from several sources.

While the Tach is out, might want to change the speedometer cable since it eventually will have a similar problem.

There are messages here or in the Tech Manual about how to remove the gauges.

I took my tach out from the dash and greased it up.  As I recall, some disassembly was required.  Stopped the screeching and that was probably 2 years ago now.

Thank you all for you advice. I'll follow up on it and see if I can get it repaired. Thanks
