Title: Pagoda Style wins three IAMA International Automotive Media Awards
Post by: mdsalemi on July 17, 2012, 23:00:51
Pagoda Style (the book) has won three awards in the [2011] 21st International Automotive Media Awards, announced today.

The first award is a Gold Medal for Dust Jacket Design
The second award is a Silver Medal for Total Publication Design
The third award is a Bronze for Technical Reference, Collector Vehicles.

I was in good company here, with awards going to Motorbooks, CarTech Books, Automobile Magazine, and more.

Sadly for those who are new here, the Pagoda Style book is essentially sold out, though a limited number of copies are available at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart and on their website.  Those of you who contributed, you now indeed have collectors items on your hands!  A big thank you once again to those who made it all possible.

In a related story, Michael Salemi (that would be me) won two additional awards in the same competition, for writing that some of you may have seen:

Paul Bracq, Yesterday and Today, published in The Star last year--this was a Silver Medal
The American Mercedes, also published in The Star last year--this was a Bronze Medal.

These were submitted into competition by the editor of The Star magazine.  Any non-MBCA members out there that want copies of those articles, I have them in PDF.  PM me.

The International Automotive Media Competition is a function of the International Society for Vehicle Preservation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization. The purpose of this peer-judged awards program is to recognize excellence in all forms of automotive media.  There was no awards medal ceremony this year.

Might be worth more if you get the author to sign it!

Congrats, Michael. I had no idea you were a writer, too!  Please save me a signed copy for when I visit your neck of the woods next month.

Might be worth more if you get the author to sign it!

A few people had the forethought or desire for signed copies, and I obliged them per their requests.  I'm sure others wouldn't want their sealed copies opened, others don't want them defaced, and a subset never thought of it.  Another subset could give a rip, as it were. I obliged all requests as best as possible, as the requests were more of personalized dedications as opposed to simple signatures..  Signing all copies would have been difficult at best.  I don't think my signature adds to any real value...just sentimental perhaps...for those who give a rip! :D
