Title: looking for w108 instrument cluster mounting hardware
Post by: perry113 on July 02, 2012, 00:33:16
Hi.
I have a 72 280se sedan in my garage that someone else took the dash apart. I am trying to reinstall the instrument gauge cluster and there is no where in the dash to bolt it to. I must be missing 1 or more securing brackets.
Does anyone out there have these parts or can shed some light to me to getting the cluster mounted correctly.
Thank you in advance.
Peter

There should be one bolt on the center of the back of the cluster that goes through a hole in the back center of the opening.  If the bolt is missing post a picture of what you have.  I have some clusters that are missing the instruments but the surround is still good.

PM sent.
I need the bracket on the back of the cluster that allows you to secure it in the dash. See. picture.

I had read somewhere that all 108s don't have the bracket and that it is just a friction fit with the ribbed rubber band like in a 114/115.  I don't know if that is true.   What I do know is that it's nearly impossible to get to the nut on the back of that to remove the cluster...

The cluster has the bracket on the 108 and helps align the cluster.  It is very difficult to get the knob on the back.  Most people leave it off since it is almost a friction fit anyway.

I've wrapped the cluster with thick double sided tape to increase the friction, works like a charm, I do not remove the tape facing out, this way it slides in easier
