Post by: tradjim on June 06, 2012, 12:16:15
My machanic had my 230 on the lift checking fluid levels and i noticed he had a special wrench that fit into the rear diff plug and manual transmission case, does anyone know where to buy this tool ?

Jim,

It's an ordinary Allen key you need. I beleive to remember it was 14 mm or so.

Good luck!

MB had a special tool for this job. I have one that I use all of the time and it makes getting into these tight places much easier. Every now and then I find one in an old car that I'm parting out.

I've always just used an Allen key to check this, though I am sure there is a special MB tool that exists...

Yep, MB used to include this tool in the trunk bag of most cars, then later, in the trunk of the fancy cars like w100s and 109s and maybe some SLs.  Now the cars are almost entirely made of either grey or black plastic and you dont need no 'stinkin tools...well other than an SDS laptop. My buddy works at Schumacher MB in Scottsdale. Says 99% or more of the work they do is software related. He says the cars are shipped with known software issues! Boy, have things changed! Remember when an MB ashtray consisted of MANY parts, some steel, some chromed, some leather or wood? Now, 1 piece of blow-moulded grey plastic! No more annoying grease zirks etc! And 11000 mile oil change intervals  (as though the oil doesnt still get dirty) But at least the door mirrors point at the ground when you select reverse! Now, back to the wrench for trans/diff. I have them if anyone needs one. Keith 520-404-2875
