Title: Uprated Sway Bars - Thoughts?
Post by: hank sound on May 04, 2012, 16:48:41
Hi folks,  My Audi Allroad handles much better with the installation of uprated H-Sport sway bars.   Any thoughts on stiffer sway bars for our Pagodas?

Cheers, Hank

I'm curious too--and wonder why they went to a smaller one with the 280SL???!!!

I was interested myself, I put a thicker aftermaket sway bar on a Volvo years ago and the difference was amazing. Checking through the forum the only aftermarket ones seem to be NLA, the next best thing for us 280 owners may be finding one from a 230 which are a bit thicker, but I'm guessing may be tired from old age. The purists may balk, but it is an easily reversible, inexpensive, yet vast improvement. It would be great to get enough orders to justify a production run, ala firewall pads. I'm in....

I guess my next question would be: has anyone gone to a stiffer front anti sway bar ??

Thanks & cheers,

Hank

The story goes that they reduced the diameter of the sway bar, may be combined with other changes, to reduce that tendency of the car to spin brutally once the rear  axle lost adherence. Not that handling was better, but more foreseable.

If the 230s had larger sway bars can any 230 owners confirm sudden oversteer? Hank, its seems we are on a parallel course now that our 280s have the 3:27 diff, looking for obvious improvements....not that I want to flog the old girl through the chicanes at Lime Rock, but a slightly larger sway bar really makes a huge difference for everyday driving.
