Title: Pagoda Style wins 2012 IPPY Award
Post by: mdsalemi on May 02, 2012, 12:29:08
In results announced on 1-May, Pagoda Style has been designated as a winner of a silver medal in the 2012 IPPY Awards for independent publishers.

This is the 16th annual Independent Publisher Book Awards, honoring the year’s best independently published titles. The “IPPY” Awards were conceived as a broad-based, unaffiliated awards program open to all members of the independent publishing industry, and are open to authors and publishers worldwide who produce books written in English and intended for the North American market. The sponsors define “independent” as 1) independently owned and operated; 2) operated by a foundation or university; or 3) long-time independents that became incorporated but operate autonomously and publish fewer than 50 titles a year.

This year, there were over 4,000 entries in 72 categories.  A glance through the winners list shows that very few of the winning titles--only 4 besides Pagoda Style--were self-published.  Most were a product of small independent publishers or well-known University press operations.  When Princeton University Press, Getty Publications, and the Carnegie Museum of Art are competing with entries, it's good company!

The awards are to be presented in New York City on Monday, June 4th.  If I can make it, I will--and hope that those in the NY area would be able to join me.

Congratulations to the 66 contributors, artists and "early adopters" that made Pagoda Style possible.

Good job, Michael!  Great result.   Thank you for enshrining our little slice of life.

Are you contemplating Vol. 2?   I mean when you're sober.  ::)

Congratulations Michael.  Why am I not surprised?  Because your work speaks and shows for itself.  I am only glad to be a small part of your success.

All the best,

Michael: Congratulations on a job well done and worth waiting for.
Still trying to get a visit with the CEO of MB Canada to give him a copy. I got a wimpy answer from Canada Post as to why the delivery took so long. My member of parliament was useless in escalating this problem.

Thanks for all the congratulations!  Some asked for "more information" off line.  Here it is:

Greetings and thank you for entering the 2012 Independent Publisher Book Awards!
Here is a final note of thanks to all of our participants, and to again say how much we appreciate your support. It's truly painful to not be able to give everyone an award - especially those that come in fourth! But we are also proud of how exclusive our awards are, and how hard it is to win an IPPY.

Our 372 medalists were chosen from 5,206 total entries, so one in fourteen entries got a medal. Average category size was 50; a little less in the Regional categories and a little more in the E-Book categories.

IPPY Medalists represent 44 U.S. states plus Washington, D.C.; 7 Canadian provinces, and 10 countries overseas.

Below find the links to results, online at www.IndependentPublisher.com. The results article is now live online, so if you do find a typo in your listing, please send me an email and I'll get it fixed right away. This will also become the results program for the award ceremony in New York on June 4th.

Later today we'll start emailing the medalists with more details about the awards packets, RSVPs for the awards ceremony, etc. Stay tuned!

Again, thanks to all for your support of IPPY and the Independent Publishing movement!

congratulations . What a very nice award. Any author would be so proud.  Our cars exude style, and I am sure a whole book full of pictures and articles on our Pagodas was just an overload of joy for the judges. A job well done, Michael!

may I also offer my congratulations, this is by far one of my favourite books (and believe me I have many books...)

Well deserved, hope that you are able to make it to the awards.
