Hi all,
I need help finding a part that's listed as NLA. It's the SENDER UNIT, Part #001 542 13 17, for my Auto tranny. As my pictures show, mine looks like it took a torpedo !
Another NLA part I need - - BREATHER PIPE, Part #129 016 00 30
If you have some uplifting news for me, please email me at - hankgarfield@sbcglobal.net - or call - (818) 953=7196.
Thanks, Hank

I just asked about this part last week. It was available, but expensive, like $242.
-
Hi ctaylor738,
Who has it? Are you looking for a used one? From what I gather, the current list is shown to be $185, though its also shown as NLA.
Cheers, Hank

Just curious - what happened to it to cause that damage?
-
Hi twistedtree,
I have no idea when or how that happened. We found it while doing service in addition to installing my 3.27 rear end. I would say it has been in questionable shape for long before I bought the old girl (8 months ago).
Oh well, Hank

I thought it was needed for a 250SL I was working on, but the problem turned out to be a badly corroded connection. The EPC doesn't show it as NLA. I called the dealer with the PN to get a price.
-
ctaylor, when did you call the dealer for pricing and availability?

That casing looks like it ruptured outward from a force acting on it from the inside.

I have a complete spare trans in my garage. It doesn't look familiar but I'll have a look tomorrow.
-
That is the worst example I have seen of a problem that is becoming common now with the age of these cars, and that is exfoliation of the aluminium.
Certainly in the UK these are NLA and getting very difficult to find s/h. I recently bought 6 s/h ones from one source and only two of them worked.
I have been working on finding an alternative from hydraulic switch manufacturers and am making some progress. Stay tuned.
Incidentally, during my 30 years of fixing Mercedes cars I have noticed some failures that are purely a factor of time. Items that I've never changed in 20 years suddenly start becoming a common item to have to change.

How tough a job for a machine shop, etc??

I asked my dealer about price & availability about 10 days ago. Dealer parts departments vary wildly in how energetically they pursue parts like this. Do you want me to ask them again?
BTW - I assume that you know that there are switches for reverse and forward. If you can live without an idle advance in reverse, you can use just one switch.

Hi folks.
We can call off the dogs :D My friends at Bud's, found both the sender and the pipe, in one day !!.
Thanks all, for your efforts in my behalf.......
Hank
