I noticed in the Pagoda Style book a number of owners have personalised number plates on their 113’s, I was recently given the plates 000MB and have had them registered on our 280SL.
Also see attached plates on our SL500, and our 300SEL, I would be interested to see what other members have.

Not very creative but it answers a lot of questions before they are asked.

Here's mine, with the top on it is easy to explain the plate. BTW, PAGODA 1 is on my 250 SL. I tried for PAGODA but that is already taken here in California. Okay, figured out how to get the photo set correctly!
-
I have "D 230SL". Both 230 SL and SL 230 and also PAGODA are already taken in Ontario. I hope I meet them some day soon. I'm sure Marcus will chime in; he has PAGODE, the German spelling.
I picked "D 230SL" because I figure it mimics the way the Euro licence plates have a D at the left.
In my circle of astronomy friends, astronomy references on vanity plates are always popular. Sky & Telescope magazine had a gallery of them in the June, 1979, issue, I think, and I'm kinda surprised they haven't re-visited that topic.
-
My 1971 280 SL has a vintage CT plate "PAGODA."
It was amazing to me that no one had previously claimed it.
-
My 280SL still has the California black plates that came with the car back in '68. Nothing special but they are the originals. Before a law was passed back in 2009 allowing owners of cars from the 60's to purchase "used" Black Plates, it was pretty rare to see a car on the road with them and it usually indicated an original owner's car. Not so anymore :( I believe this is true for the California "Blue" plate that was first issued in 1970.

And on your Mini is "Its A Gas"?

I had "ITS A GAS" on the Mini when I was in Ohio, that was not available in Ca, so I went with "TISA GAS". For a little tongue in cheek I have "VN8E PL8" on my SLK.
-
I have All Aces on my 280sl as you can see in the book. I had for 10 years CANIBAL(wrong spelling but can only have 7 letters) on my 1968 Big Block Corvette (It ate up everything else on the road) until the state of Illinois determined that it was " in poor taste" and pulled it.
Bob
Others I have had "ITSA 69"
"XTOYX"
"HIHO AG" ...get it hi ho silver!(lone ranger reference)

I've always liked Rodd's 'MIT STIL' (with style, in some Germanic language ;))
This is the car (and Rodd, over to the right) in 2002, at the very first PUB ... on the left, you can just make out Joe's Bar and Grilles ... and it was hot that week, hence the fan.
-
And,while I'm at it, this is a pic later that same evening, when most attendees had retired for the night, Rodd's 'MIT STIL' still in the garage. Always thought his was a nice picture:

Years ago when I used to take the my car into the MB dealer to have the Valves adjusted, they used to put large "box" fans on top of the engines to cool them down. It took a while but it worked.

Well, my plates have changed a number of times over the years...
When we got the car it had a basic 70s California plate : 595 UBQ or something like that... Then it has had these incarnations.
63 Kid (1979-1994) -- When my Dad first bought it for my mom, she named it this because she had 7 of her own "kids" AND we also had a number of baby goats running around the ranch. She loved it and it was her 63 Kid! When I was in High School, then College, I drove it and everyone assumed I was the 63 Kid! I was actually the 62 Kid. Frankly I was a little self-conscious of it, thinking people thought I was a cocky kid...
JAH 63 (1994-1997) -- This was a little more self-centered: my initials. There was also a double entendre here as JAH is GOD in some smoke-laden parts of the globe 8).
63 Guzzi (1997-2007) -- Sometime back in a about 1988, I took one of my nephews for a spin. He called the car a Guzzi-Morollii. No idea where he got that but we started calling it the Guzzi. It has absolutely nothing to do with the motor cycle.
If you listen carefully as the car shifts from gear to gear, you will hear goooooo-zeeeeeee... My kids only know it as this and to this day when they see any Mercedes they say "hey a guzzi..." My car will always be affectionately known as The Guzzi.
63 230SL (2007-present) Tired of having to explain the Guzzi thing -- especially to Pagoda enthusiasts! I decide to go ultra-descriptive. Still get people looking at the plate and asking, "nice car, what year is it?" ::)

Hello James, that is a great collection of licence plates for your car. I am surprised the DMV let you hang onto them. The only old plate I have is the oval white German Tourist plate that was on my '65 VW that I picked up in Paris.

I actually have a Dr. Benz plate but I haven't figured out a way to use it. It's not mine and the guy died so maybe it will be available if I ook into it.
Here in Ontario, you own your plate. If you sell your car, you keep the plate and just transfer it over to the next vehical. A few years back the ministry decided to go to plates with up to seven numbers. I still prefer the old steel six number plates - the new ones are softer aluminium and bend very easily.
-
Here are my plates on each of the cars
67 - 250
68 - 280
69 - 280
78 - 280
Planning to add a 230 and a 190 to the collection. perhaps I should get the plates first then look for the cars!
Cheers

My Plate is a lucky occurrence.
I was re-registering the car and was offered 110MBR.
Tentatively I asked the girl if 113 MBR was availible and sure enough she handed me the plates.
As my car is a (W) 113 MBR (oadster) I thought the letter combination ideal.

Bob
That is really cool.

Here in New York I tried for several of obvious choices, ended up with M280SL
Oh Yeah, that's my 12 E350 Coupe. It came home about 3 weeks ago, what a FABULOUS Car.
Thanks

I just got my plate in Norway on my 1967 250 SL
Sorry that "all" nice plates was gone, and I had to have 5 digits 250 + 11 to make the plate as small as possible :D
-
Starting in the year 2000, the Province of Ontario Canada announced that they would allow seven and eight digit license plates. After much deliberation I decided that there was only one choice.
-
I have "71BENZ" on my 1971 280SL.
-
The desktop computer revolution might have made the word ICON an overused term.
- - - Nevertheless, it seemed particularly appropriate to describe the timeless elegance of our vehicle's design.

here's mine. A replica 1968 licence plate. The 1968 color is coincidentally a happy match/

I have been most curious, who in Ohio was able to get my old "PAGODA" plate??? The renewal window should have opened by now.
-
It's interesting. I bought my "71BENZ" plate a few weeks back. The ohio plates website allows you to enter a desired alpha numeric. Remembering the post on the PAGODA Ohio plate, I entered PAGODA and it came back as not available...hence, 71BENZ. Data base must not be updated.
-
Rare? Not really sure, but it is the only one I have. ;D
-
Many ask the following question "What year and model is it?"
Answer quite simple really: "Have a look at the number plate; it's A 70 280!"
-
my car has a special plate " PAGODE".
I have a 280 SL 1969

Freedrik,
You are now part of our very small club.
Garry, Jordan, and I all have "PAGODE" also.
We now have four countries represented with your addition to the group.
Garry, Jordan, and I were actually able to talk face to face at the 2011 PUB.
This is a fantastic group of people. I see it is your first post, so welcome.
Please post a picture of your car, we would love to see it.
I've posted a picture with my plate, but please don't comment on my tailpipes, they have been replaced since the picture was taken. ;D
edit: The moldings have been replaced too, but not the damage below the plate... :( that is getting closer to the top of the list, but not there yet.
