Title: 230 SL blower switch
Post by: Bonanza on January 30, 2012, 06:23:07
My 66 230sl does not have the heater blower switch on the dash . This car was given to me as a gift from my 84 year old father. The car was a basket case when my Dad got it and he rebuilt the whole car. I pulled the dash apart today and found a connector behind the dash that I believe is the plug that connects to the blower switch. I searched all the sites that I have used the last few years for hard to get parts , I searched the pagoda site , and no luck at all.Any help would be great! No defrost and no heat makes it hard when ever I take the car out!

Heater Blower switch is available from Mercedes Benz. See this page: Equipment for cable harness (http://www.sls-hh-shop.de/index.php/cat/c2339_54-Elektrical-Equipment-at-Body.html#cat_83_position_23_prod_0), item 23-24. Part number (Mercedes-Benz) is A1118210851 Heater blower switch, and A1108201592 Knob, heater blower switch.

Make sure you close the vents on each side of the dash. With the vent opened at the base of the wind shield and the heater levers moved to full heat, you should be able to get enough heat to stay comfortable.

The blower switch should be the same in early 60s sedans if you can find one.  A new one may be pricey.

As I was cleaning up the wiring harness I noticed a switch on the top left slider of the heater defrost controls. When pushed over to the far left the blower started . It was going at max level. Is the switch that Mercedes sells a reostat that controls the blower or are there diffrent versions of blower controls for the 230SL?

The stock blower switch is a rotary rheostat type switch.

Hi All! Still working on the heater /Defrost of my 230 SL .I have the control unit out and have made repairs to the control levers and have installed a blower switch.I have the MB book that list all replacement parts 230/250/280 SL. I can not find a coolant valve that controls the flow into the heater core . I have the dash pulled apart and can not find a control cable that would shut off the coolant going thru the core. Am I missing some thing here or is there no valve on the 230 SL???

Did you check the technical manual?
This is what the valve looks like: http://www.sl113.org/wiki/Electrical/HeaterControlValve
