Title: New "Battery" section in Tech Manual
Post by: twistedtree on January 29, 2012, 00:00:49
I added a first draft of text in the battery section in the Tech Manual.  Questions, comments, corrections are welcome.

Thanks. This is particularly timely for me. My battery died yesterday!

Me too, that's why I wrote it.  I've been trying to figure out what size group battery to use.  Personally, I'm going to try a Group 34R.  It's the closes match to the original battery size.  Many people use 24F or 24R, but they are taller by about 1" which I think aggravates the challenge of getting them in around the top oil cooler hose.  Also, they are a bit longer and some don't quite fit in the tray.  But they have more juice - that's the advantage.

The measurement you give for the height of the original battery doesn't include the posts, which the other measurements do.   The height of the original battery, including the posts, is 222mm, the same as that of the Interstate 24F batteries, for example.  In fact, the Interstate MT-24F or I-24F matches the original height and length exactly, and the width within 3/16" inch (5mm).

Ah, thanks.  That's a key piece of info.  I'll update the manual.
