While searching for member experiences with a vendor who is not on our Vendor List, I found that the search function won't return recent posts, even those I know contain the exact search terms.
Example: In searching bimmerspecialist.com, I tried Bimmer, bimmer, bimmerspecialist, bimmerspecialist.com and others, only to find that the latest posting that comes up is 2008. I, myself, posted that term last week and can find it where I posted it, but search doesn't find it.
Am I doing something really stupid?
I would like to search the supplier to check other people's experiences before adding the supplier to the vendor list, since I've had quite a lot of really good experiences with them.

Tom,
I have noticed the same a few times and believe that it has to do with the time lag when it was posted, but I am not sure.
Somehow recent posts (within a month or so) are not coming up - perhaps the "search crawler" has not seen it yet??
May be our webmaster Peter has an answer? ???

The most likely reason is that your search is limited because you are on the wrong board. E.g. if you are looking for a post in the Vendors board, but you are actually deep into another board (e.g. Events) your search will be limited to that board only.
Make sure you are at the top board -- have a look at the breadcrumbs above your message to verify... it should only say: Pagoda SL Group. Then the search will return results from all the boards.
Breadcrumbs are the dark line below the NEWS line in the attached picture.

That's one of the first things I learned when I started searching. Your posts on that subject (I forget where exactly) were very helpful. I made that mistake early in my membership. I now always go back to the "Pagoda SL Group" or the "W113 Pagoda SL Group) for my searches. I think there is something else wrong. Perhaps some further experimentation would discover a reason. I even verified that logging out and logging back in didn't help. I thought that perhaps as long as I was continuously logged in, maybe the search tool could not find posts made during a single continuous session.
It's not a major problem. It's just an inconvenience.
I'm sure we'll eventually find the reason.
Thanks,

As we have a large message base, an index of entries is created to ensure searching is fast. For some reason, indeed, not all messages appear to be included, or not all search word occurrences. I'm looking into this and will report when I know more.

I'm currently experimenting with rebuilding the search index from scratch.... performance of the web-site will be slow during the next 12-14 hours (it has completed 6% in one hour), and searching will not yield many results. Please bear with me!

Please let me know how your searches go as of now!

Damn! You really know what you are doing. It works at the speed of light and is perfectly accurate and complete. It even found a post I made 2 minutes before searching.
Congratulations. I love it.

Yes Peter, works much better. I had noticed it rarely brought up posts from 2011 but didn't really think about it. Seems to be much faster and it is bringing up everything now. Thanks to Tom for saying something and Peter for fixing it..
