When one you guys has a minute, please look at the emergency brake cup to see if the hole at the bottom has a rubber grommet or if it is just an open hole to sweep out cookie crumbs. The cup is the sheet metal panel that the cable passes through after it attaches to the handle, the cable has a rubber boot.

Mine has rubber grommet. I replaced it a year or so ago

When I noticed mine did not have a plug, I thought that was stupid, so I put one in.

Thanks guys for checking, I replaced the left side firewall panel, the three floor panels and the left frame rail,. I wasn't able to reuse the handbrake cup because it had 16 spot welds! Not wanting to wait for a replacement part from K&K, I fabricated my own, the hole still doesn't make any sense, unless it's a locating hole for a fixture when the car was built.
