I've got a 4 speed box that I'm going through. I noticed that the input shaft is pitted towards the splines (Clutch Side) and the seal surface looks a little iffy. I know they make a shaft repair sleeve that could address the seal area but I also have another input shaft available that looks much better. the only problem I see is that while the shafts appaer to be exactly the same, they have different part numbers tamped on them. The one that is currently in the box is 111 262 07 01. The one form the potential donor box is 111 262 00 01. Anyone know if these are interchangable?
Thanks,
George

George, I'm not sure about interchangeability but this part seems to have multiple numbers including 112 260 05 20 in the 1964 edition B parts list and 111 260 13 20 in the 1967 edition C. There's also at least one W110 part, 110 262 04 01, that looks identical. I don't know why the part numbers would change unless there was some dimensional or specification difference, but they certainly all look the same. The gear ratio and cut should always be the same, right? Do you have a set of digital calipers to compare dimensions?

David,
Thanks. I may have found the answer. It appears the two shafts differ in the number of teeth on the gear. One looks like it has 24 and while the other has 25. This tells me they are not interchangeable. I did this as a quick check but will go back when both boxes are totally disaasembled to be sure.
