Title: Steering drag link contacting oil pan
Post by: twistedtree on December 07, 2011, 16:09:09
I was replacing the steering damper and tie rod ends on one of my cars and noticed that the steering drag link is rubbing against the bottom of the oil pan.  The car is a late production 230 (summer of 66 build) but it's had a 280 motor fitted in it.  Anyone run into this before, especially in relation ot a 280 motor in a 230.  Also, it's an automamatic that's original to the 230 body/chassis.

Thanks,

Peter

Check your engine mountings, they're probably collapsed.

Never mind.  When the car is on a lift, the front frame sags down on the mounts which also lowers the motor.  When back on the ground the clearance is fine.

On to the next thing.
