Title: Looking for my old 1970 280SL...
Post by: carmutt on December 03, 2011, 14:19:55
In August of 2005, I regretfully sold my Grey/Blue Metallic (906), cream leather interior, 4 speed 1970 280SL.  The car went to Tony Smith in Vancouver, BC.  VIN number was 113044-10-012870.  The email address I have for him is no longer vaild, and I do not have a phone number.  I was hoping to connect with Tony to determine if he still had the car and if so, if he was interested in selling it back to me.  Yes, I miss it that much!

Not sure if he has joined this group, or if anyone in the Vancouver area is familar with this car.  If so, please contact me.  I have attached a picture of the car for reference as well as a link to many detailed pictures of the car: http://www.pinballmadness.net/collections/main.php?g2_itemId=3111

Thanks for reading and in advance if you can help me locate this car.  I am open to any ideas to find out the current location of this car.

Good luck on reuniting with your Pagoda!  It's a nice looking one.

Updated info.  So, I have located the address and phone numbers provided at the time of sale of the car, but unfortunately none are still valid.  Does anyone have a friend that could look up the serial number of the car on the Canadian DMV or even US DMV (in case he moved to the states) to see who the car is registered to now?

Try searching through Facebook & other similar sites too using his name.  Try Googling his name. Try any # of methods using his name and previous email address  to uncover any link to something current. It really is tough when someone changes their email contact info.....Keep us posted....

With the privacy laws in the US, I would be surprised if you could get the info from any states DMV.  I'd stick a stamp on an envelope to the address and see what happens as well as search the net as noted.

Good Luck,

Rolland

The first thing I actually tried was Facebook, Google and LinkedIn type of search engines.  With a name like Tony Smith, it makes it really tough and nothing really seemed to match.  What makes it more difficult is that all the information that was provided was actually for his girlfriend (address, phone number, etc).  I actually "found" her online with the provided address and phone number, but when I tried, it was disconnected.  Tried calling the operator and she stated there was no new listing for her.  I will try sending a letter to that address as well.

Anyway, I will keep looking. Perhaps Tony will perhaps read this thread...the serach continues.

Success...well at least with half of my quest.  I was able to track Tony down through the internet via his wife's information and just spoke to him on the phone.  He still has the car, but unfortunately is not intersted in selling it.  Oh well, guess I will need to look elsewhere for another Pagoda.  Anyone have a Blu/Grey Metallic, Cream Leather Interior 280SL for sale?

I'm glad you located him. Make sure he keeps your contact information in case he decides to sell it . Good luck in your search for the right Pagoda.....

Not even an option as he empatically stated he would not sell it for any price as he just loves it, but would contact me in the future if he did decide to sell it. On that car, I guess that is all I can ask at this time.  It was certainly nice to connect with him.

It's always an option.  It's just what the number is and whether you're willing to pay it.  Would he take $200K for the car?
