Title: Carpet Question
Post by: Neil Thompson on November 18, 2011, 21:25:02
As I prepare to restore my Moss Green car I have been taking a photo catalogue of the car in its present condition in order to return it to as original condition as possible upon rebuild. One thing I notice is that under the hardboard shelf behind the left hand seat the area is carpeted, not with the original Parchment trim as per the rest of the car but with Gray, see attached photo. The carpeting is tailored and looks part and parcel of the car, can someone please confirm either way for me?

Thanks Neil

Do you the single rear seat?
All carpet should be to the same design and colour I believe.

The car hasn't got a single rear seat and according to the data card has never had one. I also find it strange that the carpet is a different colour but disregarding the colour issue, should there be carpet in this small area at all without a third seat option? As far as I know my car has all original trim throughout and if this carpet was added afterwards I will leave it out during the restoration.

There should be NO carpet under the wood panels.

Gnuface is correct, I have a Euro spec 280SL with Kinderseat, and the foot well is carpeted with same color carpet.  If you did not have a kniderseat originally, check your data card, then no carpeting was in the foot well under the carpeted wood deck.
