Hello all you Righties,
we are getting close, by the end of next week the die for the RHD pad will be made and a week later we hope to cut some material.
But to help planning we need to know how many of you are still interested in buying one. The pads will be distributed by a friend of Andy (Drewtree) in England and by Garry in Australia.
We are not sure yet of the final price but most likely below £125 or AU$170 (VAT included). Shipping these large pads (50" wide) is quite costly!
Here are the names of those who expressed an interest earlier:
Australia:
Hands_aus 1x
RicRose 1x
CraigB 1x
Garry 2x
69 280SL 2x

Who else would want one?
-
Hi Alfred,
Just want to make sure my order is still on your radar. I am in Australia but need a left hand drive pad.
Dave
-
Alfred,
Gnuface is UK.
If you want to put it in with the RHD pads bulk shipment to Australia, I can send it out from here to Dave.and save him some shipping.
I see that Benzrestorer is still quoting the non standard material pads as better than original :o Got the pattern right, just not the material and too bad about the lack of any correct backing material
Garry
-
Dave,
thanks for reminding me. We'll make sure that one LHD will go to you, somehow. Perhaps Jonny B can take it along on his next business trip, I'll ask him.
-
Will the RHD pads have the VIN plate aperture cut out?

hey, don`t forget me - I`m in for one
-
Naj,
There will be the same cuts that we did for the LH Pad and the backing can be cut if you want the VIN cutout. see photo
George, I will be getting the Pads for AUstralia in one shipped box from the US and will then be sending out individually to try to save on shipping costs. You will be on the list.
Garry

Also, does this include the footwell bits or are they off the radar pending the use of the material for the firewalls?
Thanks and top work.
And yes, I am one RHD
-
James,
Alfred has sourced more raw material as we work through getting out all the the left and now starting on the right hand firewall pads at this point then see what is available for interior.
Garry
-
Yes I would still like one, please note it is 'Gnuface' not Gunface ;)
Larry
-
Sorry Larry, my thumbs, all fixed
Garry
-
Hi Garry et al,
Can I please put in an order for two RHD. I am in Oz
Thanks
Hamid
-
Hi Hamid.
Noted, especially as one of your cars may be my future blue Pagoda ;D ;D ;D
-
Could you put me down for 1 x RHD pad to the UK please.
-
Naj,
There will be the same cuts that we did for the LH Pad and the backing can be cut if you want the VIN cutout. see photo ....
Let me get this straight. I thought all RHD cars have the VIN cutout on the firewall, is that not correct? ???
My intention was to have the cut out in both parts, waffle-patterned material and felt, to save you some work.
-
Hi, Alfred.
AFAIK, YES
but I could be wrong.
Naj
-
Hi All, I would like one of these RHD pads please. I'm in the U.K
Sam.
-
Naj may be right.
Is there anyone on this forum with a RHD car that does not have the data/vin plate on the firewall?
Garry
-
Hi evryone dont forget me. 1xRHD for me please.also Naj orderd 1xLHD for me too.
Thanks
Sully.

Hi Garry
I think I had better make it 2 x sets - not the 1 as shown. Also I would like to register interest for boot (trunk) and footwell material when avaiable.
Cheers
Richard
-
Richard,
although we are gearing up to produce the footwell material I am afraid that this will fit LHD cars only.
What do these pads actually look like in your cars? ???
-
That would be great but I'm mindful that it's best to travel light for business, especially if you can get all your gear into carry-on luggage. So I do not mind paying for postage.
Dave
Dave,

Put us down for one. RHD in Australia. Just curious why people are ordering 2 sets, the last set lasted 40 plus years??
cheers rob
-
Rob,
69 280SL has two 280SL cars, I have one and am intending to get a second in the next 12 months and Richard Rose, I dont know.
Garry

Alfred
My car has never been restored - but has been continually maintained. This coming winter (June, July, Aug ish) I intend to do a fair bit to improve the car. One of the things I need to look at is the insulation (it has been removed at some stage) so I don't have patterns for either the trunk or footwell (feetwells??). I was thinking of cutting material to suit. Would that be possible ???
Richard
-
Hi Garry,
could you please put me down for one RHD in Melbourne Australia. Much appreciated.
By the way, Garry, we still need to have that catch up sometime.
regards, Gary
-
Gary,
Have added you to the list.
I was talking to Richard Rose last week on this and we decided that early in the new year when the Xmas madness is over we will post to all the known Melbourne Pagoda owners and do a day run probably north north west out out past Lancefield and around back to our place at Hanging Rock for a BBQ lunch then return to Melb.
It might be a case of picking up your Firewall pad and save on postage at the same time!!
Will post in Events area in new year and by PM
Garry
-
Hi Garry,
That sounds excellent - looking forward to it. I've not driven the SL around your area so it will be a great change. I tend to naturally head to the Yarra Valley or the Dandenongs. And thanks for all the efforts on the firewall pad.
cheers Gary
-
Garry & Gary,
Make your trip a bit further north and I meet you half way, say Albury Wodonga :) The new double lane would make a nice cruise
Hamid

We have delivered the new batch of firewall material to the die cutting company and I am now waiting for the die to be made.
Because of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend here this may take us to the end of next week but then the cutting should start.
This is how the request list stands - the game is currently tied AUS 11: UK 11, who will win? ;D

Hi Hamid, it's a great idea but I'd struggle to find the time to make the trip to Albury from Melbourne at the moment (it's about a 4 hour drive each way) - I'll keep it in mind for sometime next year.
cheers
-
Garry,
As per my post on other thread, I would like one for my RHD manual.
Thanks

Any news on delivery Garry ?
Sorry in advance if I have missed the answer...
Steve.
-
Steve,
the traffic was so bad on Friday in Los Angeles that by the time the die cutter's shop was reached he had closed. So, back again tomorrow for another try.
If everything turns out OK then I should be able to ship all sets on Wednesday to Andy "Drewtee" for distribution with an ETA of first week in 2012.
I guess you'll hear from him how he plans to do this.
-
Excellent news Alfred - Thank you so much for letting me know.
Seasons Greetings,
Steven.

For the AUstralian members who have asked for a firewall pad and in some cases two, the pads are on their way here with an expected delivery into Australia of New Years eve. Once I have them I will send out a paypal invoice for them and seek an indication how you would like them delivered. SOme of you will be able to collect at the gathering on 22 January, others from Canberra will get them when I am there in February and for others I can mail out as you advise.
Looking forward to seeing them.
All the best to everyone for Christmas and safe driving over the festive season.

I will seek confirmation once I have the pads in hand.

The UK firewall pads are also enroute. Once they arrive and we know the final cost including any duty, i'll contact all who have ordered with payment details and to request the delivery addresses.
The pads will be dropped over to Kevin O'Keeffe' in the new year. He is not back in until the 5th January so i imagine once payment has been recieved that these will be sent by mid January latest.
Happy Holidays
Andy

-
Hi Frank,
Welcome back.
I have a pad for you but am still working on finding suitable boxes to ship. I have some more cardboard arrivingMonday so hopefully it will be suitable and I will send you an emai with some shipping costs.
Garry
-
We're trying to work that out also. Those RHD pads are looooong.
-
Andy,
What I am trying is a piece of 3mm MDF and then get a good corrugated cardboard, ( was used to pack guitars) and cut to a square and sandwich the pad between. Am getting some Monday so will photograph and send if you want.
Garry
-
Andy and Garry,
I went to a local collision repair shop to get discarded boxes and then cut them to ship the pads to you.
They usually have boxes used for shipping fenders and bumpers.
