Title: Where do these parts go?
Post by: IXLR8 on November 10, 2011, 15:46:35
Hi--

I've stopped removing things and now am starting to put things back on.

I have two tubes--see pictures--and I don't remember what they hook up to.

The first tube goes under the intake manifold, but what do the ends copnnect to?

The second tube, I haven't a clue.

Thanks in advance for your assistance

Sorry Joe,

Currently I cannot find really good pictures in my archive showing unambiguously where and how these parts go.

The first (the upper) tube is the the one that connects the thermostat housing (long ending) with the right heater connection (through the firewall on the passenger side) and the expansion tank (that is the lower opening, the short one on your tube).

The second tube seems to me to be the right half of the early style breather tube, the one that connects (via a boot) to the venturi housing.
I've attached a pic from an early 230. This is not my car but an extremely nice example. ;)

Best,
Achim

Achim is correct.

The second picture is the lower half of the crankcase breather tube that connect to the manifold just ahead of the throttle butterfly.
Only applicable to 230SL's produced before December 1965.
The bracket that is seen on the pipe (second picture) is unique to that setup.

The first picture is the coolant line that runs under the intake manifold as already mentioned.
