great pics
thanks
was the rack factory fitted?
-
This is probably the most common mistake made on trunk-fitted luggage racks:
the vertical bar should be facing forward, towards the driver.
It is not there to keep your luggage on the rack. Bungee leads or a strap will do that. It is there to protect your neck/head from a hurtling piece of luggage doing damage to you if you end up in a collision.

Sorry Dave ... to say so.
Please forgive me my opinion here but I don't like it; this is not my personal style.
As it might be a nice contemporary and clearly after-market derived add-on for your (our) car(s) it appears to me to be fitted by screws to the trunk lid. :o
Or, with other words, you now have holes in your trunk lid that should not be there - as from the factory. :o :o
For me (and possibly others here) this is a noticeable deduction of your car's value. :'(
For a real aficionado aluminum welding and repainting with all the color code shading problems is going to be the consequence from this.
If I hunt for a luggage rack then only the one-and-only hardtop-mounted luggage rack ;)
which is unfortunately extremely rare but also extremely beautiful.
IMHO

I totally agree. It's a real sore spot with me. It detracts from my enjoyment of the car every time I look at it. It's been on there a long time, not sure who drilled the beautiful alumimum deck lid and plopped this thing on there. Now I find out it's even on backwards. The previous owner had the car repainted - I don't know why that rack was put back on. I am sure that wellding in the holes, and repainting the deck lid will be expensive, and probably won't look right when it's done. Oh, the pain............

Find another decklid and paint it. Then you have options.

Dave,
I love the colour combo! Nice touch dressing up the child to match!
cheers

Thanks for the comments. I didn't realize the boy was color coded. I like the color combo (not as nice as a red one or a silver one, or one of those cool blues, but Ill take it). The only thing is with the top off, the Havana brown hubcaps don't really work. I love the hardtop look so much (those thin pillars!), I'm tempted to leave it on in summer.
