Hello , I am currently having a problems with the Clutch Pedal sticking close to the floor, we have pretty much Tried everything to remedy this problem and nothing is working. I have a feeling there is something wrong with the Pedal Assy. especially the Spring is that connects to the pedal. What has been done to this car is as followed:
1. Clutch Replaced (Kit)
2. New Slave Cylinder
3. New Slave cyl Adjusting rod to take up slack
4. New Master Cyl
5. System bled completely
6. Pedal Spring Adjustment
7. Lubricated all pivot points at Pedal assy.
ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS? This Car has Got to go !
Thanks, Brian

I had a similar problem on my '66. You might try detaching the clutch slave return spring, and then pushing the actuation lever back and forth a few times. Sometimes an air bubble gets trapped in there and does not bleed out - this gets it out into the system. Sounds a bit silly, but after trying a lot of different things, this turned the trick for me in a minute or two. I found the suggestion here on the board, so there is probably a post you can find via a search with more info/discussion on this trick.
This, of course, assumes that all else is well in the system.......
Best of luck -- Roger

Theres not a whole lot in the pedal assembly.
To ask an obvious question have you taken the spring adjustment to the min or max?

Hello,
Most often it is the slave cylinder rod which is not adjusted correctly. Back pressure from the clutch assembly helps push the clutch pedal back up all the way. If the rod is too short, the pedal will not return all the way.

Thanks for all the responses, we have bleed the hell out of this clutch numerous times doing it with vacuum, pressure, ECT ECT. I also Fabricated a new, Longer slave adjusting rod to take up all the slack in the slave adjustment. The pedal return spring hasn't been adjusted completely in, but seems to make no difference when it is adjusted. We worked on it today and the problem still exists. There aren't many things we haven't tried or looked at... Very odd ! Anything else ?
Thanks, Brian

How did you bleed the system and did you replace the clutch hose at the slave cylinder?

NO that ohse has not been replaced, I guess that is the only thing left huh?

I fought this on my 230SL. Here is what I ended up doing:
- replaced hose
- rebuild kit in master and slave
- bled it every which way
- made an adjusting bolt about 1/4" longer
Things were OK for a while, then the play started to increase and the sticking returned.
I replaced the master and slave cylinders and that solved the problem.

I really won't rebuild stuff like that. I use new parts and never look back. These are systems that you need to rely on and are safety related.
