Title: PS pump end play
Post by: twistedtree on August 13, 2011, 22:07:07
I'm working through a pile of issues trying to get this car running, and one thing I noticed is a lot of end play on the PS pump.  The pulley appears to be attached and tight, and as best I can tell the end play is in the shaft itself.  I haven't measured it, but I'd say it is a couple mm.

Is this normal?

I've also got PS fluid spitting up around the reservoir cover nut when shutting off the engine which I gather is indicative of air in the system.  Perhaps the air is related to the end play?

Thanks,

Peter

Can't say for sure but a small amount of end play seems reasonable.  I would be more concerned about and noise, radial bearing play and and shaft seal leaks.
