Dear All, having looked through the Manual and performing the search that yielded no results, I decided to ask: my car was ordered with fog tail lamp. Do you have any advise on what kind of lamp this should be? Any pictures? Would appreciate help there...

Why do I have a feeling it's integral to the rear light cluster?

This is SA 462
It is a square, red light unit attached to the rear left rear chrome bumper of the SL. In the factory mounting instruction, they show to mount it underneath the bumper, hanging.
Light switch was behind the ash tray(between the seats)

Try the search with "rear fog" as the search string, searching only the subject line (one of the search options).
As Hans has typed, this is a small square single unit mounted under the bumper. One of the strings indicated that there is no provision for wiring in the 113 cars, and that a separate wire will be needed (the instructions are in the topic thread).

It is this code indeed. Thank you very much! Very helpful! I will get to "Want to buy" section and search for this lamp as well as some other spares I need.
Another "strange" code I have on the plate is the one "car ordered with automatic antenna, without a radio". I will need to find a radio with antenna steering from those days.
Thank you again!

I have a fog light on rear, my SL is Euro specs, and came with fog light as optional equipment. Wiring is to switch at center concole behind ash tray. NOS are still available in Germany. If you need more infomation just contact me.

Bob,
Thank you! I would certainly be keen on seeing in detail how the switch looks like and where exactly it is located. You can find on EPC the spares (a bit of an issue with availability), but seeing how it is done is critical.
Best regards,

So MB sold a separate switch for the rear foglight? And what is the partsnumber for that, as I am pretty much interested? Does anyone have a picture of the position of that switch. For the moment I have an aftermarket switch with switchlight (compulsory).
-
There are a couple of part numbers depending on chassis number(before and after #14490 for 280 SL), only the late version button seems to be available. The late version part numbers are, button w/green dot is p/n A1158201492, the switch is A0018216151 and is NLA.
Attached two pictures of a 1971 280 SL I had that has the factory fog light option, showing the location of the switch and light.

Thanks Hans, so button and switch are not integrated and sold as different items. Is the switch hidden in the small leathercovered part?
-
Yes they are listed as separate parts, come to think of it you might also need the chrome-rosette(ring).
The switch is built into the small console behind the ashtray, that also houses the switch for the optional(standard on late US cars I believe) heated rear hardtop window switch.(white center button)
-
Hans,
Thank you! Exactly what I was looking for. So happens my car has the rear window heating as an option (280SL, 1970). Funny thing is - it has blue leather upholstery and silver paint, was ordered with market code 5. Will look, I guess, like the one on your pictures.

Pawel
