Re: 280SE or SL. Have a 280 engine with the filled thermal capillary tube the goes into the engine about between 5 and 6 cylinders on the head. Should there be a 'stand off' between the head and the keeper nut on the tube. The 'stand off' would be about 14 mm in dia and about 14 mm high.
Engine came with the keeper nut screwed into the head directly.

Perhaps a photo would help. My 280 doesn't have anything that matches your description. What year is yours?
-
Depends if it's early or late. The late engine has a fitting near the back of the head where the sender screws in. The early engine has a housing near 3 and 4 spark plugs.

I have a pix on a SD card. How do I get the pix on this site?

In the valve adjustment tour is a photo showing the port on a late 280SL:

Thanx. The 3c pix shows it all. I need the 'stand off' ( joining piece or bushing) that the capillary bulb fits into that is to the left of #6 plug. I need the temp switch to the right of the #6 plug, also.

Do you mean the thermo time switch?
Are you coming to PUB??

I'll be at PUB. Need the adaptor(stand off?) for the bulb and the electrical switch-both.
