Title: Spotlight / Tire Cover Questions
Post by: CraigD on July 01, 2011, 18:01:03
I have a Hella "spotolight" that came with my car from the previous owner.  I don't have too much info on these.  Are they a period aftermarket item like the under-hood light?

Here is spotlight that was in a 1965 Mercedes "Special Equipment" catalog. Looks pretty similar. You have a good looking spare tire cover BTW :)

Yes, and yours is an unusual color with what looks like a dual plug that can be used in the accessory plug or cigar lighter.  Do you have the box for it?  They sell for between $200-$400 from what I see on Ebay, and as I said, yours is unusual (that's good).

John,
Thanks for noticing the nice spare tire cover.  Previous owners took great care of the whole car. Just passing 127,000km/79,000 mi.

John,
No box... but the spolight is clean!

Nice looking trunk (boot) John. The spare tire cover has elastic around the bottom edge to keep it snug on the tire.

As i do not have the rubber band does anyone have a photograph of the band so that i can get something similar.
Also if the said band goes inside the channel how is it joined together?

John / 49er,

Would you be willing to attach an image of the cover of your special equipment catalog?  I'm going to begin searching for one.

Thanks in advance,

Craig

Eric,
here are photos of the covers that I have. I have never noticed it before but they all have different fabric colors on the inside.
The 230SL cover (original) is green (in 1st photo on the right), the 280SL cover is a grayish/beige (left) and since it had two cuts I bought another used one (in the middle) that is dark gray/black.
All of them have an elastic bungy cord of about 6 mm diameter  that is spliced together using a metal crimp (2nd photo).

I will scan the cover soon as we get back home from Kirkland. 86 yesterday, 60 and rain This morning, then 86 later up in Levenworth. Crazy! We are slowing  adjusting to your weather:-)
We were on the lookout for a silver SL yesterday but didn't see one.
