I need to replace my exhaust system from the resonator back (my front pipes seem ok). What are my options? Stainless? Buy it from among current advertisers/sponsors and do it myself (I have a lift in my garage)? Take my 280 SL to a local muffler shop and have them build a system?
Any and all recommendations from experience would be much appreciated, including preferred suppliers.

Ricardo,
be careful buying an aftermarket resonator. Some are symmetrical and will not fit.
See this topic: http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=14248.msg97089.
Also do not forget to add the heat shields otherwise the rubber hangers (donuts) will not last for long!

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a related question. I had a complete Time Valve stainless system installed on my 68 280sl. Before buying the system (thanks Mark P) I had also purchased a Borla aftermarket rear muffler that I have never installed. My question is, can I install the rear muffler on the stainless system, and if I do will the exhaust note change to any appreciable degree? Thanks for any thoughts or comments.

Hi--
K&K offers a great stainless system that is well made, fits easily and perfectly. Their price is coimpetitive.

Joe,
please tell us who is K&K. The only complete system I've found is at BUDS BENZ--north of $850.

The K&K folks made a presentation at the PUB (2007?) and were great. I've dealth with them since and they couldn't have been nicer or more pleasant to deal with.
Borla seems to make good products. The note will likely change, but better or worse will be a matter of opinon and once you get used to it, you won't likely pay any attention.
