I just hung up with the Mercedes Classic Center in Irvine. I ordered something called a Vehicle Information Packet. It includes, the window sticker, the data card and some other information specific to the my car (didn't follow her completely). This cost me $50. Has anyone else bought this for their car as well?

I have gotten (as have many others) a copy of the original data card (build card, like the old IBM punch cards), but have not heard about the other items. Please post a photo when you receive them. Isn't there a Heritage certificate or something similar also available, or is that the for-cost item?

I am still stuck on the original question... by "screw it in" I took the question to be where can I get a data plate that goes on the firewall. The data card is important too but Lepee is that what you are requesting? The data plate, as far as I know, is not available from the Classic Center. Am I wrong? Mine came from CraigS who reproduces them.

I am working with Tom Hanson at the CC on getting the door jamb data tag.  They do make them in Germany at the German CC.   I do not know which cars this was on, but I do know it probably should have been on mine.  There are two holes where the rivets should be on my door jamb, and I did take a photo recently of a car with January 1969 production, clost to mine.  This is NOT the firewall plate inside the engine bay, but the door jamb tag.

It would be nice if we had additional information on the firewall plate--such as a good enough photo, and which years it might have been on.

I believe you are correct, I answered the wrong question.

Now I'm confused. I received a call back from the Classic Center in Irvine. They told me that the Vehicle Information Packet was not available for my 1971 280SL. I will be receiving a refund.

Would it be polite to ask who you talked to at the Mercedes CC?  I'd like to ask them if something similar is available for me.
