Title: 71 280sl stuck in 2nd gear

need a little input here. started out this am, car shifted fine thru all 4 gears and then all of a sudden the trans went into neutral . tried to find a gear no luck. as i pulled off to side of road car dropped back into 2nd/ nursed it home in second gear. nothing, when i tried 3 or 4th.

any ideas? car had 75 k miles - fluid and filter replaced at 55k

Hope for the easiest....  The grommet in  the linkage is gone..

happy camper - got the shifter detail off the site - took out shifter mech - the nylon bushings were all but gone - amazing it lasted this long. Recommend pro active replacement for those who may not have done. Hardest part so far was peeling original carpet back - still glued to tunnel .
