Title: Transmission, Manual Shifting
Post by: byrdman on April 24, 2011, 03:29:18
I have a 67 250sl with 4 speed manual trans. The other day I was driving and noticed my shifter characteristic has changed. The throw from gear to gear has doubled. In other terms it went from a close ratio shifter to a ultra wide. Any ideas why and how to fix? The gears still shift. ???

Hello,

Your plastic shifter bushings are disintegrating. Do a search or look in the technical manual under "shifter bushings" you should find plenty of information.

Keep us up to date.

As long as you are in there, my suggestion would be to change them all.  These parts don't cost much, but the agro factor can be high if you have to go  back in.
