Title: Placement of Right side Exterior mirror for 230sl

I just replace the orginal crane mirror on the left side and now I have to drill holes for the right side mirror ...But is the placement on the ride side mirror the same or do I move it up closer to clear the window bar???How do I know where to put the right side mirror on the door? Thanks Everyone

Mary, there is a reinforcing plate welded to the inside of the door where the left side mirror sits.  I have a 66 230SL and had my door panels off recently and checked the right side.  I also had the same plate on the right side but I have no mirror there so it may be that all doors have this extra reinforcement.  You might want to make sure you have the reinforcing plate inside your door before you start drilling holes.  It should be in the same location both sides.  You may want to do a search on this subject because I believe someone else has mentioned that the window pillar obstructs your view out the right side mirror and as such is not very useful.  Let us know how you make out.  I have thought about adding a right side mirror as well but it is further down my priority list.

My 250SL had a right side mirror originally, and I added it back on (it had been removed).  It's hard to see from the driver's position, but it looks cool to have the two mirrors.  There was a set of posts a while that talked about the position, and if you were 5' 6" or 6' 6", and why that affected the mirror placement location.
