Title: Rear Wheel Well Lip

I'm getting ready to repaint the car and question what the rear wheel well rounded edge or lip should look like.  I'm talking about the part of the wheel well that your fingers would contact if you were to lift up on the body of the car above the rear wheel.

The surface of my wheel well lip is very uneven, as though the metal has been covered with bondo, but has not been sanded smooth.  It is a very irregular surface.  Is this what it should look like?

Like you described, it's the undercoating.  It's irregular, kind of bumpy, but not too bumpy, sort of rough, but not too rough that you'd scratch your hand, that you would see it from looking at the side.  You should have the same surface inside your wheel well and on the underneath chassis.  The irregularity does change a bit from surface to surface, it's most tame at the fender lip edge, for obvious reasons.

OK....  Thanks for the quick response.  It looks "unfinished", but I can certainly live with that look.
