Title: original color code trunk area

    HI,  I  TRY  TO   RESTORE MY  280 SL   1969 AND  I  WANT  THE  ORIGINAL  COLOR  CODE   FOR  THE  CORRECT  FINISH   OF  SEMI  GLOSS  BLACK   IN  THE  TRUNK  AREA. .
     PLEASE  HELP

I tried the search function with "trunk" as the key, searching subject line only

Result:

Tiefdunkelgrau code 7164

It is a dark gray, that looks black, especially when there is no comparison

(info above from the string found from the search)

7164 is a Mercedes color number. Paint is sold by Glasurit:

Select the Manufacturer: Mercedes and type in the Colour Name: tiefdunkelgrau matt
But you may have to learn how to type complete words ;D!

Hello George,

Well, there has been some discussion in the past whether or not "all" pagodas had tiefdunkelgrau-painted trunks  and softtop compartments or not. :o
There are several pre-1968 survivors (inluding my own 1964 230 - at least regarding this aspect) who did not come with a tiefdunkelgrau trunk but with a real (semi-gloss) black trunk. Clearly black not deep dark grey!  8)
This changed at a certain manufacturing date but I don't know exactly when.

Sadly most pagoda owners today "believe" those cars were "always deep dark grey iinside the trunk" and destroy the original condition during the "new paint process".
