Its a bit hard to find Movies with our beloved Pagode. My attempts are reaching out for over a year now;
you can see that in my topics from 2009-07-23; 09-11 and 11-02.
I am trying out a new version; just look at it and tell me what you think. http://leo.vossen.cc/Pagode/
If the club is interested, I am willing to leave it to your site.
Have fun !

Dear Leo,
Thanks a lot for your info and the link to your homepage.
There are quite some nice videos on youtube if you search for "Mercedes pagod*", "230 SL" and related search terms.
A lot of the videos presented there are poor, some are great.
I definitely like your latest summary of the "Knocking on Heaven's Door" extract which shows only the important scenes of that movie, the ones with the SL(s) (there were two in the movie).
One of those cars, the one being in most scenes (with the black-body rear view center mirror) is now owned by a fellow member of the Pagodentreff community - so the car is safe for the next future ... :D.
Personally, I like it more to leave ... let's say at least some of the original sound of the movies with the extracted clips (as you did for the "Knocking on heaven's Door" clip, especially in order to keep that fantastic engine and exhaust note of the car(s).
I do not have to decide that... but if the Board members agree I would love to have several of these clips "rescued and safed" on our homepage.
Please keep on recording.
Best wishes to you, Leo
Achim

I bought the DVD "Two for the road" with a very (anoretic) Audrey Hepburn - the film sucks, but they drive a very nice white Pagoda... I can send it to you if you want :-)

Or you can see the summary here: http://www.sl113.org/FilmExcerpts.html
It's been on our site for a couple of years now!

Peter,
unfortunately the two links on this page are broken:
http://www.sl113.org/news-reader/items/videonews.html
-
I know, but if Leo had the DVD in hand, he might be able to edit a new clip with only the best Pagoda scenes :-)

Fixed...
However, some external videos are no longer available...

I already did... the site has only the Pagoda clips from the film...
-
Ahh - failed to notice that, was just trying to help ;)

Thanks all for your comments and remarks.
Peter: first of all: shame on me. I had no clue about the presence of "Video" and "Film excerpts" in the Content.
I have seen now all (included the two I made) and I will comment them lateron.
Achim: thanks for your contribution: this kind of comments are very constructive. Once more a reason to go on.
Ulf: very kind of you to offer me the DVD of "Two for the road". If its possible to send me a copy of that DVD,
I would aprreciate that very much. If you want, you can PM me for the adress and tell me how I could pay you
your costs.
Next: the purpose of my editing.
I just want to see our Pagode as the star in whatever Clip, Film or Movie. I have no need for discussions, long
conversations or personal interests, besides the interests for the Pagode. I just want to see it as a beautifull
driving machine, used in all kind of circomstances, knowing that its almost a miracle that this machine is still
a very attractive and timeless appearence.
That takes me to the excisting Video and Film Excerpts.
The advertising Film from Yourneyman TV is ruined by the ignorant precence of the one who copied it: Yourneyman.
I wonder if it would be possible to get anywhere a copy of the original part. Perhaps Mercedes Benz ? I would love to
re-edit it to a real advertising clip about the skills of the Pagode.
I would also love to re-edit the European Event from 2006. Dont worry Peter: your car would stay the star. ;D
To the Film Excerpts: The serie 555 clip is just about discrimination; I have no need for that discussions but would just
let the Pagode do its job. Same story about "Two for the Road": to much attention for Hepburn. Give me the Pagode:
you may have the Hepburn.
To end: I did spend many hours on Youtube to get clips about the Pagode. Most of them are awfull and/or just ment to
sale the topic or to show how excellent people can restore and rebuild a wreck. I admire that kind of hobby but I cant
see what it brings for my purpose. If they do there job well and get the Pagode running in a Bond Movie, I will be the
first to edit the result.
I hope I will still get tips and material from you.

No, probably your browser. Are you using Internet Explorer? Safari on a MAC, or Google Chrome or Firefox are better...
-
Yes...I am using the Explorer, it was on the laptop with Vista when I did buy it.
Furtermore I am perhaps a bit old-fashioned: my father ever gave me this advise:
"never touch a good running machine" ;D
But I will try one of those you pointed: if Explorer is not "the good running machine"
I will replace it.
Thanks Peter

Sonntagsfahrer und Rentner.
Here is another one, a nice one from the Factory.
http://www.horizont.net/aktuell/marketing/pages/protected/Spot-Premiere-Mercedes-Benz-schickt-drei-Weltmeister-auf-die-Strasse_97096.html?openbox=1
("Sonntagsfahrer" = Sunday driver)
("Rentner" = retiree)
Enjoy! :D

A really funny advertisement for MB's all-wheel traction system!
Perhaps it needs a bit more translation to catch on?
Two-time Formula 1 world champion Mika Häkkinen approaches a 280SL in his E-class T model and when he finally is able to pass he notices that the car's driver is seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher. His comment is "I knew it - a Sunday driver!"
But he is surprised when a G-class 4-matic easily overtakes him. Its driver, soccer world champion Franz Beckenbauer, dryly comments "I knew it - a retiree!".
-
Dear Alfred,
Thanks a lot for the correct explanation.
I was just too lazy to explain that more precisely. ;)
All the best,
Achim
(no MB driving in snow)
-
This one is better for you. Better G-class driver than Franz Beckenbauer ... :D ;D ;)

As a sunday driver who drives his Pagoda in the snow too, I really, really appreciate the advert(s). Especially as I'm overtaking all sorts of cars on the mountain roads in Austria on the way to my skiing holiday in my proper 4WD with low gearing and a small diesel engine... but then I have traction...

Thanks to Ulf I was able to strip the movie "Two for the Road".
Its an oldie with Audry Hepburn, but an interesting 140 secs Pagode.
You can see it at my Pagode-website: the adress is the same: http://leo.vossen.cc/Pagode/
Tips for more movies and/or clips are welcome !!
Have fun.
