Title: heater lever control housing unit rebuild - lubricant required ?
Post by: pmo956f on November 02, 2010, 00:48:26
Hi ,  spent this evening stripping and reassembling my  heater control lever assembly, replacing broken levers etc .. :)

should the unit be lubricated , ie where the levers rotate around the clear plastic cylinders and where the cable holding nuts sit in there grooves on the metal frame

if so whats best to use ? (i have the coloured clear levers  a la 250sl)

Thanks in advance !

Hello,

On the cables use a light oil or a oil/graphite spray.  Heavy grease and oil will attract dirt and grime and will become thick and sticky in cold weather. Be careful using lubricants on the plastic parts. Some lubricants will attack the plastic causing parts to fail in the future. I suspect that Mercedes may not have used lubricant on the plastic parts which must remain clean and clear to tranfer light to the front of the controls.
