I am replacing mine, but the old one is very well glued in. It is coming off in 4mm pieces. At this rate, I would miss the next PUB. Has anyone used a commercial adhesive remover? Safe on the paint? Any other suggestions or tips would be appreciated.

good question. How do you get the old glue out of the channel's? (also around trunk seal) to repaint and place in a new one???????? last time I scraped and sandblasted. I'm not doing that again. I'm getting too old for this crap

Hello Gus,
when I was living in MO I could buy 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 08984:
3M™ General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 08984
Specially blended solvent which provides easy cleanup of most types of adhesives, bugs, greases and oils, overspray, silicone, waxes and tars.
Full Description »
Will not harm most thoroughly cured automotive paint, vinyl or fabrics when properly used. Part numbers 08984 and 08986 have a VOC content of 816 grams per liter (6.8 lbs per gallon). Composite Partial Pressure equals 4.81 mmHg. Local air quality regulations may regulate or prohibit the use of surface preparation and cleanup materials based on VOC content. Consult your local air quality
Here in Southern CA I could not buy it but you may be able to get it in IL since it is available from Amazon. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RHZ30S/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B002Z8E5WE&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1N5SBJ4PMTPXZSYJFJND)
Be careful and don't use it in a closed garage it needs lots of ventilation. I put the car outside and dripped the fluid into the channel to soften the old glue. On other spots when there was no groove I overlaid the rubber with cloth and soaked the cloth. Don't let the area get dry again or you will have to start all over again.

Thanks for the good (as usual) advice. Amazon is even more convenient than going to a store.
