Hi, I just joined the club and I am cosidering buying an Sl 250 or 280. I know nothing about the cars but have had around 20 British classics. Where should I start my research and what books would be sensible to read.
Many Thanks,
Neil, Shrewsbury , England.

Hello Neil.A good book to start with is the Original Mercedes SL by Laurence Meredith ISBN 1 870979 66 4 good basic info.Another much more detailed book is Mercedes Benz 190 SL - 280SL by Gunter Engelen, only in German though, some great photo details .Are you going the private route or dealer.Whatch out for dodgy dealers.Cheers and good luck with your search.Mike P.S.Always have an expert on the model with you before you buy or keep in touch with the Pagoda Group for help and info

You could do far worse than this: Chris Bass is in the UK MB Club and Roger Edwards was the club Pagoda guru

Try the Wiki buyers guide:

There's a few well known UK dealers/restorers: John Haynes in Worthing, Roger Edwards Motors in Amersham and there's a couple of Merc dealers/garages that own their own Pagoda (a couple on here...)
Good luck! and welcome
