I guess when the server went down last weekend my pictures disappeared into "ether" space. I am reposting them along with a few more. Thanks for all the previous comments.

And a few more. Haven't really starting doing any "detail" work on the car yet. Having too much fun driving it again :)

Ah, 49...!
Another fine survivor and reference car - very well !! :D
I do have one question here.
Please, what kind of lining do you have in the wooden center tray between the seats? It appears to be notthe carpet yet. Is it still the "original vinyl/plastic" liner?
Just collecting original marks again as I do not know exactly when this was changed from "Plastikfolie" to Tufting carpet.
It was sometime during the production run of the 280 SL, that's the only thing I know.
And ah yes, a '68; you do still have paint runs on the back side of the engine hood! Great! ;D ;D
Best,
Achim

The tray liner is made out of a vinyl/plastic material and I do have it but was not in place when the picture was taken. I took delivery in late September 1968 but the car was assembled in June or July. Took a long time for the freighter (the "Ditmar Cole") to make it's way to Long Beach, CA, from Antwerp. And yes the paint runs are original "factory installed" :-)

Really nice! Well, as a fellow 49er (Grass Valley section :D), I hope we can add you to our local driving group. Its been a while but a few of us here around GV/ Nevada City love taking drives either your way or toward Downieville and Sierra City.
