Does anyone know of a good mechanic for a 1967 250SL in the Cleveland, OH area? My current mechanic has been having troubling getting the car running. It sat in a garage for about 3-4 years, and my wife and I just inherited the car, had to tow it to a gargage. Has 106,000 miles on it, body is in good shape, needs some detailing.
After putting about $1,500 into the car, now he tells me it needs a Fuel Injection Pump, cost about $2,500. Would like to get a second opinon before spending $2,500.
Thanks,
Alex D

Alex,
First of all, $2,500 sounds excessive for a pump that you may not need. They are generally rebuilt at a cost of about half that.
Contact JonnyB (Jon Bernardi); Frank Cozza, or Peter Lesler, all of this group and the MBCA Western Reserve section for recommendations.

your mechanic sounds like a scam artist. Check this site out. They are selling the pump for $586. Labor should be an hour tops which should put you around $700 for the job-if you even need it that is.

edit: actually this refers to fuel pump, not FI pump so please ignore my post.
